The GM Diet: 7 Days to a Toxin-Free Body & Mind

Diet fads come and go. Anjali Gaur shares with LadyBoss the effects of the famous GM Diet, first designed for employees of General Motors Inc in 1985.

The GM diet is popular all around the world.

This diet was designed for employees of General Motors, Inc. This diet promises weight loss of around 5 to 6kgs in 7 days. I have tried this diet twice in my life, the first time being Christmas Holiday back in 2009 and second time was a month ago. Both the times, this diet has left me with wonderful results and contentment.

More than weight loss, the significant benefits of the diet are associated with improvement in attitudes and emotions, which is the result of cleansing done by the diet. It is a method of flushing out our systems of all impurities and provides us with an overall feeling of well being as well as an abundance of energy. The food intake during these 7 days burn more calories than they give to the body in caloric value.

A few things to keep in mind during these 7 days:

  • No Alcohol
  • No Tea or Coffee (green tea & black coffee without Sugar is OK)
  • Don’t exercise until Day 4

I am sharing what I ate for 7 days with additional notes about what each day is meant for during the detox process.

You can lose up to 2 pounds a day by following the GM diet plan.

Day 1

Only fruits (except bananas)

Recommended: watermelon and cantaloupe

8-10 Glasses of Water

This day is for preparation of your system for the diet. Fruits are nature’s perfect food and provide us with several essential nutrients.

Day 2

1 boiled potato

Cooked/Raw vegetables

8-10 Glasses of Water

Begin your day with a complex carbohydrate coupled with an oil dose for energy balance. During the rest of the day plan your meals around vegetables, which are mainly calorie free and consist of all nutrients and provide us with fiber. 

Day 3

All fruits (except Bananas)

All vegetables (except potatoes)

8-10 Glasses of Water

Your system is now getting ready to burn excess pounds. Avoid potatoes and get your carbohydrates from fruits instead.

Day 4

4-6 bananas with (750ml) skim milk

8-10 Glasses of Water

This day is to make up for all the lost potassium and sodium in the first 3 days of the diet. This day will be fairly easy and you will notice a loss of desire for sweets.

Day 5

2 cups of brown rice +tofu

6 large tomatoes

Tomato soup

8-10 Glasses of Water

Tomatoes are for fiber and digestion. Tofu and brown rice are for iron and proteins. 

Day 6

1 bowl of tofu/sprouts or 2 cups of brown rice

All vegetables (except potato) without oil

10-12 Glasses of Water

This day is similar to Day 5. You get iron and proteins from tofu and fiber from vegetables.

Day 7

2 cups of Brown Rice with Vegetables

Fruit juice

8 to 10 glasses of Water

Your system is now under control and is thanking you for the flushing and cleansing you just have given it. Once done with the diet, follow a low carb & high-protein diet to maintain the results.
