Dress for Success to Economic Freedom: Q&A with The Image Mission

Their mission? To realise the vision of empowering women in need to gain economic independence and break out of the poverty cycle.

More than 200 women have been impacted by Image Mission in gaining economic freedom and they are on their way to success. As a volunteer-based organisation, led entirely by volunteer Board members and Leaders – their unique services are provided by experts from the respective fields.

LadyBoss spoke to Elizabeth from Image Mission on their upcoming event Dress for Success. We learn about their passionate and commitment to their charity…

Q: Tell us more about Image Mission

A: Image Mission is a registered charity that was set up in 2015 with the mission to promote the economic independence of the disadvantaged by providing them with coaching, image services, and presentable work attire for job interviews and career advancement.

Q: What are some of your programs?

A: Our signature programme is Dress for Success® which empowers women to achieve economic independence.

We manage Dress for Success® Singapore as an affiliate of international non-profit organisation Dress for Success® Worldwide. Dress for Success® Worldwide celebrated its 20th anniversary this year and now has more than 150 affiliates in 28 countries worldwide. We are the first affiliate to operate in Asia.

We work with disadvantaged women, preparing them for job interviews by coaching them on interview and presentation skills. We also provide a suitable outfit she can wear to the interview. Upon securing employment, we continue to support her through mentoring to help her do well at work and provide her with more work attire.

We provide more than just clothes. We instil confidence and hope in our clients and empower them to secure employment, advance in their career and achieve economic independence.

Clients are referred to us from government and private social service organisations and typically come from low income households or are disadvantaged in other ways. They include single mothers, women staying in shelters, those with mental health issues and ex-offenders.

You can volunteer as a career coach or stylist or offer skills-based assistance in areas such as administration, finance, operations and communications.

Q: How many women have been on your programme?

A: We have served more than 200 women since starting the Dress for Success programme in September 2015.

You can also organise a fundraiser and make us your charity of choice or support us in our fundraising events.

Our upcoming event is the Power Walk on Sunday 29 October, where you Walk for a Cause! It is the only international 5km walk dedicated to empowering women on their journey to economic independence.

Walk for a Cause

Power Walk for Dress for Success is being held for the 1st time in Singapore on Sunday 29 October 2017. It is the only international 5km walk dedicated to empowering women on their journey to achieving economic independence.

The Walk is organised by registered charity Image Mission Ltd in support of Dress for Success Singapore which empowers disadvantaged women to get jobs, advance in their career and achieve economic independence. Dress for Success Singapore is one of 150 affiliates of international non-profit organisation Dress for Success Worldwide and the 1st in Asia to open.

The charity walk is held in conjunction with Car Free Sunday and will take you through the CBD and let you experience the city in a whole new way! It is a non-competitive and family-friendly event.
